Recycling Crew

The Teams

Team choice

Everyone on the Recycling Crew works together to keep the festival clean and pull out as much material as possible to recycle.

But to make it work well we organize everyone into teams. Where possible we’ll keep you with your friends (so make sure you tell us who they are).

If you’ve done it before you might want to join a particular team, you can ask for that – but don’t rely on having the same team leader as they change around from year to year…

If you’re new to this then read through the team descriptions, and then make an informed choice to what suits you. Most people get their first choice, but some get their second or third.

All teams have a team leader who you’ll meet when you have your training, they’ll stay with you all weekend and will help you when you need it.

Team Descriptions

Morning Litter Pick
Morning shifts 06:00 – 12:00
Thursday to Sunday
Friday to Monday

Each morning the entire site is cleaned by our enormous team, picking up the rubbish by hand into bags sorting the recycling while they go. The work is hard and outdoors but it’s immensely satisfying to see the site cleared and be part of such a huge effort.

Afternoon Crews
Afternoon shifts 13:00 – 19:00

The teams that work the afternoon cover a huge area, clearing up problem spots of litter and emptying bins to keep them serviceable for the public. There can be a lot of walking and the work is all outdoors.

Afternoon shifts are 13:00 – 18:00

At the heart of our operation is the recycling centre. Work here is undercover, working on the conveyor belts sorting or loading the rubbish to extract the maximum amount of recycling. This work is very mucky but overalls are provided.

Tractor Crew
Morning shifts are 06:45 – 12:00
Afternoon shifts are 12:45 – 18:00
Thursday to Sunday (morning shifts)
Friday to Monday

Loading the tractors with the waste we collect around the site is hard work with a lot of lifting but it gives you a unique perspective on the festival as you travel the lanes on the back of the trailer. You must be fit and strong to join this team.

Veteran Only Teams

These are only for veterans who have already worked at least 5 years. This is the same work as the team above, but the work occurs before the festival giving you the entire festival to have fun.
(NB volunteers become a veteran in their fifth year of working, so many of you will become veterans this year but you will not be able to apply for these shifts till next time).
